The BCCAT Manual for Decision-Making

The BCCAT Manual for Decision-Making:
A Guide to Making, and Writing, Clear and Defensible Decisions

The BCCAT Manual for Decision-Making outlines the basics of administrative law and how its principles are applied when decisions are made by people who have the authority to make those decisions. The manual outlines the rules around how decisions must be made under statutory authority, as well as how to convey that decision to someone who isn’t familiar with the decision being made.

The manual is both a primer and a reference as you navigate your way through an administrative law process. While the answer to many questions may ultimately be “it depends”, the manual attempts to narrow down the factors on which “it” depends and provide guidance to people who make decisions.

Who will benefit from the Manual:

  • government employees who make decisions under various statutes;
  • individuals who may review decisions;
  • government and tribunal staff who support decision-makers; and
  • people who want to know how a decision was made and if it was properly made.
